Stage and film star Anthony Rapp visited 3N on November 9, 2005, to conduct a masters class in performance with several residents. The C-3 mini-theater was filled to capacity as about 130 students observed the class. Students had signed up in advance, and they performed songs or monologues, which Anthony critiqued for them.

Afterward the actor took part in a Q&A session and signed autographs. Anthony generously stayed three hours and spoke at length about his career -- especially about his role in Rent. (He was part of the original B'way cast, and is starring in the film, due for release just a couple of weeks after his 3N visit.) At the urging of a few "Rent-heads" in the audience, he even sang a song from the show.

Joe has known Anthony for about nine years, and the actor has been a guest in Joe's classes several times. Anthony said he'd love to return to 3N again soon.

Anthony was welcomed to 3N by CDE Sara Bleiberg. Students' names were chosen from a bowl, to perform monologues or songs for Anthony to critique. From his seat in the audience, Anthony watched the performances and offered advice.   His one-on-one coaching technique provided the students with valuable feed-back.

When we plan events like this, one of the things we hope to do is provide special, unforgettable "college memories" for the residents of 3rd North. This time it really felt like we succeeded at that! Everyone who attended seemed to have a great time. Anthony really enjoyed his visit too, and he said he'd like to take part in more 3N events in the future.
